The Foundations' "Build Me up Buttercup"

I listened to some songs from compilation albums to-day, and I noticed something about the Foundations' "Build Me up Buttercup."  The line "I need you more than anyone, darling" can be parsed two different ways.  "Anyone" can be either nominative ("I need you more than anyone [else needs you]") or accusative ("I need you more than [I need] anyone [else]").  Each parsing provides different details, but both still express a paramount need.
