Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16

Three days ago, I listened to Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16.  In the third movement, there was a part that reminded me of Beethoven's 5th Symphony.  So I looked up the scores and compared the two pieces (that's what took so long between first hearing this and writing a post about it - I'm not very good at reading music).

On the left are the first two bars of the 4th movement of Beethoven's 5th symphony.  On the right are some measures from the 3rd movement of Grieg's Piano Concerto.  Both of these - the first measure and a half of Beethoven's 5th Symphony and the 69th and half of the 70th measure of Grieg's Piano Concerto - use inversions of C major in escalating the melody.  Beethoven does this with a variety of instruments (although I've shown only a few), and Grieg does it with just the piano, but they're both doing the same thing.
