Tommy James & the Shondells' "Ball of Fire"

Yester-day I listened to a compilation album of Tommy James & the Shondells and found a couple things about "Ball of Fire."  At first, I noticed that the second "down" in the repeated line "Tumblin' down" has two syllables and that the second syllable is lower than the first (although I think it's just D to C), so it sort of represents that "Tumblin' down."  But in transcribing the lyrics, I found something else.  I think the line "As it was, so it shall be" is inspired by the doxology:  "As it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be forever."  I've read that "Crystal Blue Persuasion" was inspired by the book of Revelation, and in Me, the Mob, and the Music, James talks about religion a bit, so that influence would make sense based on what I know.

Tommy James & the Shondells' "Gettin' Together"

I'm part of the way through the Tommy James & the Shondells' compilation The Definitive Pop Collection.  At the very beginning of "Gettin' Together," there's a musical phrase that's reminiscent of the opening of the Spencer Davis Group's "Gimme Some Lovin'."  I think it's the interval of a fifth instead of the octave that's in "Gimme Some Lovin'," but I'm pretty sure that the rhythm of the two parts is the same.  Five quick notes and then a sixth lower note.

I looked up the dates, and it is possible that "Gettin' Together" was inspired by "Gimme Some Lovin'," as it's from 1967 and "Gimme Some Lovin'" is from 1966.
